Domaine Sainte Marie des Crozes
Creative spirit and innovation of elegant wines
In the Alias family, being a winegrower is passed down from generation to generation. This is how Jean, Hector and Hervé, sons of the land, devoted themselves to the vineyard out of habit and by inheritance, as did all Languedocians, while living from another activity. In 1997, Bernard Alias, the current owner, in turn inherited the property from Douzens. In 2012, their youngest daughter Christelle, after a short tour of the world of winemaking, made a place for herself within this tribe of winegrowers and proudly claimed her place as the family’s first female winegrower.
The classification, grape varieties and terrain
Domaine Sainte Marie des Crozes in Douzens is located in the Alaric terroir, the northernmost terroir of the Corbières. Alaric is a mountain that stretches between Carcassonne and Lézignan. It was Alaric II, king of the Visigoths who gave it its name. It is said that he buried his treasure there. Its soft and elongated shape draws our horizon. Along its entire length, it streaks the landscape of limestone folds in a succession of rocky bands and stony terraces. At the crossroads of Mediterranean and oceanic influences, the Alaric terroir climate is sunny, dry and hot. Wineyard’s vines are planted on the mountainside, on clay-limestone slopes surrounded by scrubland which gives our wines the scents of thyme and hawthorn.
